Davidson Calls Out Mike Lawler Over Business Partner’s Role in Illegal Release of Mikie Sherrill’s Military Records
Nyack, NY — Beth Davidson, Rockland County Legislator and candidate for Congress in New York’s 17th District, today condemned Mike Lawler’s longtime business partner and campaign spokesperson, Chris Russell, for his involvement in the illegal dissemination of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill’s unredacted military records.
According to reports, the National Archives released Sherrill’s unredacted Official Military Personnel File—including her Social Security number, home addresses, and private insurance information—to Republican operative Nicholas De Gregorio, who then shared the records with Chris Russell. On Thursday, Sherrill’s legal counsel sent Russell a cease-and-desist letter demanding that he destroy all copies of the records and halt their further use.
“Mike Lawler’s business partner and campaign spokesperson Chris Russell was involved in the illegal and completely immoral dissemination of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill’s military records,” said Davidson. “This disgusting attack on a veteran’s privacy sets a dangerous precedent for our democracy. Are these the kinds of campaign tactics we can expect from Mike Lawler here in NY-17?”
The release of Sherrill’s records has prompted outrage in Washington. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has called for a criminal investigation, warning that the violation could constitute a serious breach of federal law under the Privacy Act of 1974.
