Legislator Beth Davidson Announces Campaign for Congress in New York’ s 17th District
February 18, 2025
Rockland County Legislator has a history of working across party lines to cut taxes and combat gun violence.
Nyack, NY – Today, Rockland County Legislator and former Nyack School Board Vice President Beth Davidson officially announced her candidacy for New York’s 17th Congressional District, vowing to bring commonsense leadership to Washington and put Hudson Valley families first. Davidson is an experienced public servant who has built a reputation for working across party lines to deliver results on affordability and public safety for Hudson Valley families.
“As a mom, a two-time cancer survivor, and a proven fighter for our community, I know that Hudson Valley families are being ignored by Washington and Albany,” said Davidson. “The cost of living is out of control, and people don’t feel as safe here as they once did. From our school board to the County Legislature, I have a proven track record of working across the aisle to cut taxes for Hudson Valley families and delivering solutions to keep our kids and families safe. I’m running for Congress to put Hudson Valley families first—because we need experienced leadership that knows how to fight for this community and win.”
A Nyack resident for over 20 years, Davidson was twice elected to the Nyack School Board, where she led efforts to enhance school safety, upgrade school facilities, and deliver much-needed property tax relief for seniors and volunteer first responders. In 2021, she won a competitive three-way race with over 56% of the vote to become a Rockland County Legislator, where she successfully worked across the aisle to deliver a bipartisan tax cut, fully funded law enforcement, preserved hundreds of acres of open space, and passed public safety legislation to reduce gun violence.
Davidson’s campaign will focus on three core priorities:
- Making life more affordable: Davidson will fight to repeal the SALT cap, crack down on predatory landlords and private equity firms that are driving up housing prices, lower healthcare and prescription drug costs, and bring down prices for essential goods like groceries and gas.
- Keeping our communities safe: Davidson has a proven record of working across the aisle to combat gun violence and improve mental health services while fully funding law enforcement so they can protect our schools and neighborhoods and stop the flow of dangerous fentanyl into the Hudson Valley. In Congress she will push to strengthen border security by deporting violent criminals and hiring more border agents.
- Delivering real bipartisan results: Unlike Washington politicians who play partisan games, Davidson has a track record of getting things done—working with both parties to provide tax relief for families, fund law enforcement, and expand housing. Davidson, who has survived two battles with cancer and fought to get life-saving care covered by insurance, knows the struggles of the healthcare system firsthand. Her personal experiences have shaped her commitment to making healthcare more affordable and holding big drug and insurance companies accountable.
Davidson enters the race with a strong coalition of political endorsements from over 30 local leaders (see below), including Assemblyman Pat Carroll, Nyack Mayor Joe Rand, and multiple Rockland County legislators and other elected leaders.
